A short decent read over the buildup and writing of the Declaration of Independence for young and old. Simple language with straight forward facts and excellent pictures for illustration.
This isn't in depth history, but it does suit readers that want a quick summary. In my case, I wanted to refresh my memory this July 4th. I wouldn't mind going back to the biographies of Jefferson and Adams for a more complete review.

An excellent history of the Battle of Brandywine. I found it especially interesting since I live in the area of Howe and Washington's military activity. The author seems to have carefully marshaled the available primary sources and he relates and debunks several myths associated with the battle. I appreciated the short biographies of key characters illustrated with reproductions of their portraits and the appendices which address particular questions, such as Were the Stars and Stripes used at Cooch's Bridge? and what became of key characters after the battle.… (plus d'informations)

I like this book because it gives good information but keeps it light with entertaining illustrations. I think this book would be good to use in a middle school history class because it helps the students to understand the history of the United States. I like that the book is easy to read with a bit of challenging vocabulary. I think this would be a good resource for learning American history and for use with creating projects.
