The late Colonel Ralph Harper's second (and better) effort at chronicling the fascinating history of the fighting Fraser clan and its various regiments down through the centuries. In 1964, Colonel Harper, OBE, was the driving force behind the raising of the recreated Old 78th Highlanders at the David M. Stewart Military and Maritime Museum in Montreal. The book while focussed principally on the 78th Foot, also covers the 71st Frasers of the American Revolution and the Lovat Scouts of WW2. A history book attempting to chronicle the history of a Highland regiment raised for service in NA during the SYW, the 78th Foot aka Fraser's Highlanders. The book was hurriedly produced to take advantage of EXPO 67 in Montreal and the large crowds of people visiting Ile Ste Helene where the 78th re-enactment group still perform today, a legacy of the good Colonel. Thus it is incomplete and incorrect in several areas and relies heavily upon anecdotal history supplied by Grenadier Sergeant James Thompson of Tain, later Clerk of Works for Quebec City. Harper would go on to produce a lengthier rewrite of the book entitled "The Fraser Highlaanders" in which many of the mistakes in this early version are corrected and additional firsthand accounts such as quotes from Ensign Malcolm fraser's Journals are included.… (plus d'informations)
