I read Jamie Leigh Hansen's "Cursed" without reading, "Betrayed", the first book of this series. That may have been why it took me a bit longer to get up to speed on who was who and their attendant motivations. I've already put "Betrayed" on my TBR since I found "Cursed" such an interesting read. Hansen's series is about gods and goddesses, angels and demons, and their descendants. I'm still not sure I have ALL the back-story, and I had to read the ending twice to really understand it, but I enjoyed the book for all that.

Alex is a descendant of an angel. He's also able to heal both himself and others. Apart from this, he's led mostly a normal kind of life...except in his dreams. For twelve years he's continued to dream of the girl he loved who turned him down and moved away without word. But in his dreams, they still meet...and occasionally make exquisite love. When he suddenly is 'gifted' with a dream of the future where he watches his 'dream girl' die, he's confused and a bit worried. When he runs into his 'dream girl' who has moved back home to take care of her family, he's more than worried.

Beth learned at a young age about her ability to actually pull others into her dreams. The first time she did it to escape a horrible event...and ended up punishing a would-be rapist. Then after she fled town, she used it to keep in touch with her first love...Alex. But her fears of men and her upbringing have taught her that love isn't possible for her, and it will take all of Alex's powers of persuasion and some help from a few powerful friends, to break through her fears.

This book is weighted more toward the fantasy than the romance. So if that's not your cuppa, then you may want to avoid it. If you do like fantasy, especially less dark urban fantasy, then you may well enjoy this fascinating glimpse into the highly imaginative mind of Jamie Leigh Hansen.

For hundreds of years, they have repeated the same pattern. Kalyss is reborn and, aided by the trusty Geoffrey, attempts to restore her lost love to life.

Trapped in stone, Dreux has watched, helpless, as the love of his life is murdered again and again.

But this time the cycle has changed, and the differences may mean success for our heroic couple. It must, else all they’ve fought for is lost forever.

Newcomer Jamie Leigh Hansen tackles a complex and intriguing story in her first published novel, Betrayed, proving she has the mettle for a career in the writing arena. Ably crafting a fascinating tale that spanning a full millennium, the author never loses the reader, even with numerous flashbacks interjected throughout the story. Indeed, the way these flashbacks are strategically placed keeps the suspense high as the story unfolds.

In Kalyss, Ms. Hansen creates a heroine who is powerful in her own right, both of spirit and body. Although she certainly has help from her companions and hero at times, Kalyss is fully capable of defending herself and is never hesitant to come to the aid of another. She is truly a woman to be admired, and it is no wonder that our hero falls passionately in love with her.

Dreux is the stuff dreams are made of – a hero who is more than willing to protect those he loves, but is quick to recognize when his heroine needs to do for herself. His unending patience and consideration for Kalyss will melt the readers’ hearts, if his absolute hunkiness doesn’t get them first!

Jamie Leigh Hansen should be proud of her first book. Betrayed is a story of love, forgiveness, and loyalty that will be certain to have her readers eagerly awaiting her next release!
