Pulled from many sources, the book tells the story of American college boys who traveled to France and ended up serving the allied cause in WWI. The book focuses on the three major players Richard Norton, Henry Herman Harjes, and A. Piatt Andrew. It relates a unique history on the rise of the ambulance service and the problems the men faced from both England and France to help. Interwoven are first hand accounts of the front, but this concentrates on the evolution of motor vehicles in a post-industrial revolution war. Thankfully, it provides plenty of references for those looking for first hand accounts that go into more detail of what the ambulanciers endured. Well organized and very readable, it is a great place to start researching a few Americans involvement, but wouldn't necessarily help those who are researching the Allies use of ambulances and their drivers, as the writer goes to considerable length to describe the unique role these men played.… (plus d'informations)
