I seem to be reading a lot of suspense and mystery books lately. But I love them! This book was really good and a good suspense keeps me turning pages. This book did. I always wish I had more time for reading! I enjoyed the mystery and the interaction between Cy and Isana. You could easily feel the relationship forming between them. The book had some German language in it. And that also sparks my interest as I am native German. In many books I've read which used German, the German wasn't really so well written, but in this book it seemed very accurate to me.
I haven't read books 1 and 2, but didn't feel lost in anyway, so it is a book that stands on its own, as well. I really enjoyed the intensity, the human feelings, happy, sad, fearful, the full gamut. This was a well-written book and I recommend it! I am sure you will enjoy it.

I received a copy of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own.

Vanished Without a Trace had me wanting to read many more Christian suspense stories after I was finished with this one. It was truly exciting and truly suspenseful without being too dark or scary like some secular novels. I was always wanting to turn another page or read another chapter.

***minor spoilers ahead*** I did have one critique for this book, though, and it's for a scene in the latter half of the story. In it, Elle is being chased by guard dogs with two men with rifles from a gang following behind. She got herself into this situation because she was investigating a supposed hideout for the "gang". Henderson arrives in a vehicle just in time, and he tells the men with rifles to call the dogs off. They do, which isn't too unrealistic, but then Henderson just leaves with Elle and the rifle men just let them leave. Considering how they shot a rain of bullets when Henderson and Elle were at the phone booth, shooting out all the glass in the booth and basically destroying their car, this later development felt quite unrealistic. Still, this was only one scene among many that were perfectly fine.

Overall, I loved reading Vanished Without a Trace, and I'll definitely be picking up more faith-based suspense novels in the future because of this book. Thanks, Sarah!

I had not read any books by Sarah Hamaker before reading The Dark Guest, but I will be reading more by this author. The Dark Guest is a great suspense story that drew me in from the start and kept my attention until the end. The historical time period of The Cold War is one I have not seen much in fiction, and it was interesting to 're-live' some of the events about which the author wrote. The story is quite suspenseful and full of twists that kept me guessing about the outcome. The main characters, Violet and Henry, are compelling and unforgettable, and the author has placed them against the backdrop of startling history. The past can wreak havoc on the present, and The Dark Guest is a great example. Readers who enjoy historical fiction stories that weave together mystery, intrigue, and a sweet romance will not want to miss this book.
I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own.
This review is part of a JustRead Publicity Tour for The Dark Guest by Sarah Hamaker.

Vanished Without a Trace by Sarah Hamaker is a Love Inspired Suspense stand-alone novel. Attorney Henderson Parker has been searching for his missing sister for nine years. When he receives a new clue he goes to Twin Oaks, Virginia. There he runs into podcaster Elle Updike who wants to help; but she’s the last person Henderson wants help from. The only problem is that someone is desperate to keep Henderson from uncovering any information. Teaming up with Elle is the only way he will be able to hopefully find his sister. This story takes you on a wild ride from the beginning page to the end. There are so many twists and turns that it’s hard to breathe. You can’t turn the pages fast enough!

I received this book from Celebrate-Lit for my honest review.
