Cowboys Don't Cry is written by Marilyn Halvorson. It is about 14 year old Shane Morgan who was at the rodeo circuit most of his life with his father Josh, who was a bull rider. When Shane was 10, his mother died in a car accident which was a result of Josh's excessive drinking. Josh's drinking caused his to lose his job as a bull rider which led to him working as a rodeo clown. Their life together was often unhappy and unstable but Shane hoped that their lives would improve when they moved to a small ranch in Alberta that his grandfather left for him. The story starts with Shane and his dad's life on the ranch and Shane's entry into the nearby school. Josh decided to bull ride again and went to a rodeo which he won. With his prize money, he bought Shane a motorcycle. Josh got a job and attempted to quit drinking but came home extremely drunk one night and had a confrontation with Shane. Shane was upset and fled on his motorcycle. Shane was involved in a motorcycle accident and was hurt badly. Neighbours took care of Shane after he was released from the hospital because his dad was filled with remorse and disappeared. The story ends dramatically with Shane and his dad reunited, and they both cried when they realized that they both really loved and needed each other.

Cowboys Don't Cry is a very good book. It is a very touching book that kept me wanting to read more as I read. I don't usually read touching books but this is an exception. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Based on my review, I give Cowboys Don't Cry 5 out of 5 stars.

a bit too cliched, but hey: it's has some good action, the characters are believable and there's a happy ending that's actually convincing...useful to recommend to 'relucant readers' tho it's far from a personal favourite.
