Returning home from the war battle scared and crippled in his sword hand, the hero discovers the death of his brother and finds himself inheriting a Lordship he never wanted. The brother to his dead brother, however, is a quite fetching creature but he wants nothing to do with her or marriage. The heroine's father, a power hungry and determined man, pushes for her marriage to the new Lord regardless of the fact that he's considered a beast and has scandal hanging over his head making him very unwanted in society. Despite this, she finds him attractive and they develop a very little courteous friendship but her father capitalizes on this and tricks them into marriage. The hero doesn't want the young woman reputation slandered and further and can't bare to have anyone speak ill of her. The heroine is forced into marriage with the 'beast' but she finds herself growing more and more attached to her fiancé. The betrothal gift he's given her, a bracelet and a ring, she's shocked to discover holds a pair of Genies. I didn't feel any connection between them and I struggled to identify with the heroine as she's soo many different things in one. On one hand she's a medieval lady, she's polite and mannerly. But on the other hand, she very promiscuous, asking the genie to allow her to sleep with the hero without him remembering it; despite the fact that she fights her forced betrothal. Odd book and it didn't catch my attention.… (plus d'informations)
