Courte biographie
British Anglican priest and theologian. He was Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion, associated with Oriel College at the University of Oxford. A Fellow and Chaplain of University College from 1924 to 1930.
Grensted delivered the 1930 Bampton Lectures at Oxford on Psychology and God, a study of the implications of recent psychology for religious belief and practice.

Grensted was a member of the Royal Entomological Society. He was later Canon and then Canon Emeritus at Liverpool Cathedral.

This book attempts to argue the case for a religious approach to life, as compared with basing our life approach from a scientific or artistic approach. It begins with the problems that we encounter in life, and argues that science fails because it cannot understand concepts such as love; that art fails because it aims to capture and hence trap in time the human imagination; and that a relgious approach cannot be simply based on the sorts of gods we define for ourselves. The author - Professor of the Philisophy of the Christian Religion at Oxford - writes in an engaging way for the non-expert, and includes examples from many fieldds such as business, international relations and psychotherapy, while concluding that both the problems of individuals and those between nations can only be solved at the interpersonal level, whilst also acknowledging the dependence of human beings on a greater Being for the solution of innate human failure. Although the lens he uses is that of the Christian faith, the concepts he expounds can be usefully explored by people of all faiths and none. Of particular interest is his approach to the ethics of war, in a book published on tbe eve of the Second World War.… (plus d'informations)
