I had just finished reading the first book in this trilogy (“Reckless Beginnings”) and immediately jumped right into the second one. Tammy Mellows is one strong and determined woman! After her disastrous marriage to Steven, I was thrilled when she found love with Dwayne.

I loved the point in Tammy’s life when she took stock of what her love for alcohol robbed her of. Grant laid out a raw accounting of Tammy’s life.

And my admiration grew as I read of the unbelievably hard work she endured when she decided to help him fish for lobsters. Grant’s superb writing made me feel as though I was right there in the boat with Tammy and Dwayne. My heart was pounding as they battled their way through a tremendous storm. Can she prove herself in the world of commercial fishing, a world dominated by men? With Dwayne at her side, Tammy discovers just want she is truly capable of doing.

But like Tammy, I too wonder how she will be able to make this new life on the sea she so loves work for her young son Matt. Will she find a way?

This is a great story, based on the author’s life, full of emotions. I highly recommend this book and am eager to start the third and final book in the series.

I hesitated to start reading this book because I knew there were scenes of drug addiction and I usually avoid those. However, I kept hearing how good this book was. So, I took a deep breath and started reading. And I was immediately pulled into the story. I had a hard time putting it down after starting it! Thankfully, there were no graphic scenes. You knew Steven was shooting up but there were no descriptions of it. The focus was on how his drug use affected Tammy and those around her. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and admired Tammy for her strength despite her mistakes.

We all make bad decisions, and Tammy made some big ones. It was obvious that Tina Hogan Grant poured her heart into this book. I felt Tammy’s turmoil throughout the story. It was quite a rollercoaster of emotions. From a forbidden love affair to a relationship based on lies and deceit, Tammy didn’t do too well with her choice of men. But she was determined to protect her baby son.

The writing flows beautifully and made the story come to life. This is the perfect book for anyone living with an addict. The constant fear, the anger, the shame – it is all laid bare in this book. This is real life. In fact, it was based on the author’s life.

It is geared towards women or any family member that may be with an addict or an abuser.

I highly recommend this book. I am now looking forward to reading the sequel.

Thank you to the author for this book which I won on Tattered Pages Book Club on FB.

This is the 3rd of the series and the last from what I read in the acknowledgements. It was based on her life. I find it extraordinarily interesting that she didn't see her sisters in 35 years. What a reunion this book was at almost the end with the 3 sisters.

It basically focused on Tammy and her husband Dwayne when they were lobster fishers and then it branched out years later when they retired and built their new home in the mountains of California.
learned a lot about lobstering that's for sure and the life they live, which is not an easy one. Tammy sure went through a lot in her lifetime. It jumped around a lot in years in a few chapters, one 3-4 years, and then all of a sudden it was 10 years later. I know you can't put every year in a book.

I know this is a newly published book, published but the errors were numerous. It wasn't a distraction but sometimes I just shook my head and said to myself, how could not anyone notice them since they were glaring.

I basically enjoyed it but it was a little too smoochy, smoochy to me between Tammy and Dwayne after a while.

This was a heavily erotic novel, almost like reading soft core porn. The sex scenes were very descriptive, and I thought, a bit unbelievable, esp, the voyeuristic aspect.
There was also an underlying story of obsession and control from the ex-boyfriend, which was dealt with in a pat fashion, wrapping up quite efficiently. I think attempted rape cases don’t wrap up as cleanly as this one did, and in such short time. I think that more time could have been devoted to this storyline.
It was a very quick read, only a little over 2 hours to finish, so that was in the book’s favor. This is Book 1 of a series.
This is not my typical style of book- it was okay, not great.
