The body of a well-dressed young man is found in San Francisco’s City Hall. Killed by multiple gunshots from an unusual foreign pistol, the mystery is further compounded by the fact that the victim had his fingerprints surgically removed. The search for the murderer leads newspaper reporter Samuel Hamilton through the Mayor's office into a gritty underground world of gunrunners and overseas to Jordan, Israel, and the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency.

The author, William C. Gordon, who was raked in East LA, who lives in San Francisco with his wife Isabel Allende, writes his detective novels in Spanish, the language in which it is originally published. The setting of the Chinese Jars is San Francisco. I first looked for the book in my local library but could find no books by Gordon. It led me to realize that there are probably many mysteries that follow this route and are missed by many of the reading public. The fact that it was written by a transplanted SFer, someone who I guessed probably likes the city as much as I do, and the less traveled road on which it was published, hooked me so I bought a Kindle version.

I was right, Gordon does love San Francisco. That alone made it a fun read. The plot is decent, with some likeable characters. I enjoyed it and will look for the next book in the series.
