Courte biographie
Charles Goldstein was born and raised in Poland. He emigrated to France in the 1920’s and was active in the French Resistance during the Second World War. In June 1942 he was arrested by the Germans and sent to Auschwitz. In October 1943, he was sent together with other Jews to Warsaw, to clean up the ruins of the ghetto. He participated in the Warsaw Uprising in the summer of 1944, and later hid in a bunker in the destroyed and deserted city. His memoir Zibn in bunḳer (tranlated into English as Seven in the Bunker; also published as The Bunker) has been published in Yiddish, Hebrew, English, French, and Polish.
