- Oliver A. Gillespie was a journalist and author, and on returning from the war wrote 'The Pacific. The official history of New Zealand in the Second World War' for the War History Branch of the Internal Affairs. He had served with land forces which went into the Pacific, first to Fiji in 1940, then New Caledonia, and on to the Solomons. He wrote for the New Zealand Army Board 'Pacific Story' and 'Guadalcanal to Nissan', as well as other publications.
