Great Martian adventure -- I don't buy that that protagonist is 16 -- didn't feel that way, ever, but the story's good and the world is interesting. Hooray!

Durango and Vienne are separated and neither is sure where the other one is. Durango is being chemically manipulated by his father, the tyrannical leader of Mars using the name General Lyme. Vienne is wandering around, eventually returning to the monastery with refugee children when she is recruited to assist in a rescue mission. Mimi, Durango's AI conscience, keeps being shut down, but Lyme has succeeded in creating his own version Dolly, who is helping guide Lyme's war to preserve his dictatorship. The computer code battle between Mimi and Dolly is a fun part of the book. Eventually, Vienne and her Russian mercenary friends and Durango cross paths in the mines trying to rescue an old friend, Fuse, who is doing his part to seed the recovery of the dying planet.… (plus d'informations)

Vienne breaks Durango out of prison to join a crew led by Aziz to rescue a man named Medici's girlfriend, Charlotte. Charlotte has supposedly been taken for ransom by another dalit, nicknamed Razor, who runs a cesspool slum called The Warren. Of course, all goes wrong when the team attempts the rescue, and the team is shocked to discover that Aziz and Razor are brothers. Durango's latent leadership and refusal to kill innocents are the main takeaways in this novella.

The second book involving Durango and Vienne, two rogue mercenaries, who defend those that need help. Vienne takes Durango to meet her "family," which turn out to be monks. They start off the rescue some farmers as Archibald and Mr. Lyme are burning towns and Vienne gets captured and tortured, forcing Durango to risk everything to rescue her. Was waffling between a 3 and 4, but went with the latter because of the excellent surprise ending. Kudos for that to DMG.
