Like her first book in the series this is an okay mystery novel. The plot is pretty solid and the mystery itself is well put together. This one, unlike Mesozoic Murder has a whole lot more working parts, but for the most part they fit together seamlessly and propel the story forward.

I still like the bit players just a teensy bit more than Ansel and Reid, though they're not in this story as much, which is a bummer (They do have a plot, but it's not a big one).

The story is that when a guy gets blown to kingdom come trying to cut out of the ground Big Toe's very own dinosaur tracks, Ansel is on the case even as all those around her beg and plead for her to leave well enough alone.

The paleontology is always interesting and I also liked how the author got into Ansel's head when it came to the artist side of Ansel's character (the artist part being a paleoartist). The new character Permelia Chance was just hilarious and heart warming and I liked getting to know more of Ansel's past in detail as well.

A good solid three star book. Definitely worth a look, especially if dinosaurs are a passion of the reader.

Just because I'm such a positive person (/end sarcasm) I'm going to start off with something that Ms. Gentry got wrong. 01880 is the zip code for Wakefield, period. Not for Greenwood (which is one of quite a few neighborhoods in Wakefield and yes it does have a train stop in it that's named after the neighborhood, but, I haven't seen a map during most of my life that has recently shown this as a 'town' anymore).

Okay. I had to get that out of my system. Onto the good stuff. The book definitely had me on the edge of my seat, sometimes 'cause it was suspenseful and I'll admit it, sometimes because I had no idea what was going on.

The paleo stuff was interesting and I really liked the characters of Chase and Pearl Phoenix, I actually liked most of the secondary characters for the most part. They were intricately written and all just a bit quirky.

On the other hand Ansel annoyed me a little. I understand that not everyone likes those who are descendants (or half descendants) of the Native peoples who were here in the US before the rest of us, but Ansel's character just wore on me because she never gave any of the other characters the benefit of the doubt. Seemed to believe that everyone was was against her because she was Amerind (which as an aside, my brain just can't seem to figure out how to pronounce correctly). Within the framework of the story it just got a bit repetitive. Of course, yes, I have no doubt that there are tons of haters out there in real life, but this was fiction, and fiction shouldn't be exactly like real life.
