Gypsy Becca: Death of a Gypsy Queen (Volume 1) par Chloe Garner
This was quite different from my normal read. I found myself rather fascinated by the Makkai culture and The Gray. Becca is a wonderfully strong character who knows what she wants from life at this point and sticks to that. I had read The Queen's Chair series and absolutely loved it so I am slowly trying out Chloe Garner's other series. This one is well worth the time. I'll be reading book 2.
Think Firefly meets The Transporter. A small interstellar transport crew is in the don’t-ask-don’t-tell-and-don’t-open-the-package business. Things go awry when Avery, their absent-minded engineer, loses a small package that is picked up by a no-nonsense warrior girl called Carbon. They adopt her into the crew to get the parcel back and are soon on the run from their irate client. The idea is derivative, but I have read many similar stories
The Queen’s Chair is an independently published fantasy with a strong female lead. Stacia is the daughter of a merchant new to a city of warring elves and annual floods that put the bridges underwater. She is not content to hang around business meetings as an ornament. She explores the city and soon finds herself working undercover with the city guard and serving a powerful queen. This was great! I grew up reading my little brother The Night Before Christmas and this would be so much fun to read to a group of college friends before we head off on holiday break. :)
