Excellent introduction to hiking and camping in deserts. After demonstrating that there are many notions of "desert," it boils it all down to "an area of very low precipitation." Thus Antarctica is a desert. It describes the North American deserts: Great Basin, Mojave, Sonoran, Chihuahuan, Painted, and Colorado. Ganci's insight and common-sense attitude helped calm my fears about poisonous snakes, spiders, and scorpions. Overall it helped prepare me for off-trail exploring around my favorite desert place---Moab, Utah. My only complaint is that the pages are falling out of it.… (plus d'informations)
