The subtitle of this book is: An anthology of secret Victoria vices.

Full of useful information such as state-of-the-art contraception. No longer is it necessary to inject the female with alum or sulphuric acid prior to copulation in order to kill the seed. Rather

place over the gentleman's gentleman a very fine nightcap, made of a tissue resembling gold beater's skin. It is so fine, that the exquisite sensation caused by contact and friction is but very slightly impeded by its use.

I may be here met by the remark that, I confess the sensation is injured....

See yon pale and emaciated female, surrounded by consumptive children. Is it not horrible that she should be bearing also an unborn babe to add to their number? ....

As to the cleanliness of this plan there can be no question. The lady receives no soil, either within or without.

I read this in junior high around 1967 and I don't think I ever really got over it. I adored it.

Interesting exposition of "English prudery." The text is 253 pages with many snippets of mostly Victorian-age attempts to control behavior in the areas of sex (action and verbiage), Sunday activities, use of alcohol, fashion, nudity and dance. This is followed by about 100 pages of notes, bibliography and index! A number of reprints of cartoons, drawings, and photos are included.
Fascinating!
