This is a sweeping history of the fashion house Gucci, the family drama, the rise to coveted product, and so much about the nitty-gritty business of it all. I think if you go in wanting the history of a fashion business, you'll be pleasantly entertained with the drama and murder bits, but don't read this for a crime drama by any means.
Also screw you Gucci for not allowing women to own any part of the company, that's not a great legacy.

There is a chain of events that led me to this book. First, I want to see the movie, because I love Lady Gaga’s acting skills. Then, I saw the Dateline episode that focused on the murder of Maurizio Gucci and trial of his ex-wife, Patrizia. I was pretty intrigued by the story. Dateline also advertised this book. I figured I would read it as the book is often better than the movie, in my experience. Well, I’m pretty sure I will like the movie better.

This book heavily focused on the growth of the Gucci business and the family drama. I think it was well written, researched, and detailed. It was just way more than I have an interest. I was interested in the family dynamics, marriage between Maurizio and Patrizia, their children, and relationships after their separation. I like learning about people and not so much about the business.

I have a feeling I will like the movie better.

Too much economics, not enough Lady Gaga. It does serve the valuable purpose of making the reader completely uninterested in high fashion.

The book begins with the shooting of Mauricio Gucci in the early nineties. It then rewinds to present a history of the firm.
It Is from Florence Italy. While there is a legend the family built saddles hundreds of trays ago the author discounts that and tells the story of the modern fashion company. The main focus is on the family and the leaders of the company - how they lead their lives and spent the wealth they developed.
There is a lot of detail that makes the story interesting to someone not in to style or fashion.… (plus d'informations)
