Delilah is in San Francisco to audit a company called Scanguards, and she suspects someone is embezzling money. After she gets too close to the truth, someone tries to kill her. She bangs on a stranger’s front door for help.
Samson has a little problem: he can’t get an erection. It’s been nine months and zip, nada, nothing. When a strange woman begs for his help, he desperate and thinks she’s the stripper/hooker his friends hired for his birthday to help with his problem. After he forcibly kisses the panicked woman and finally gets an erection, his friends and the real stripper show up. Talk about a humiliating situation.
Delilah is a human, Samson is a vampire, and their relationship starts out strong. Though he only meant to use her to fix his problem, their chemistry is instant and one night isn’t enough. On his part, it’s almost a case of insta-love but definitely insta-lust for both of them. Samson’s friends are also his coworkers, and they’re downright loyal. As the owner of a bodyguard company, Scanguards, he doesn’t pay much attention to the human side of his business, just the vampire side, and conflict arises when he finds out Delilah works for him.
I really liked this book. Delilah and Samson are likable characters. She’s strong, snarky, and confident in herself. When she finds out he’s a vampire, she completely freaks out on him. In some books, the heroine accepts this kind of thing too easily, but Delilah was appropriately terrified, intrigued, and desperate to escape him even though her heart told her to give Samson a second chance. I love emotional turmoil.
The minor characters are great. Yummy Amaury, Thomas, and Ricky! Carl is sooo sweet. I love reading in someone’s POV who’s not the H/h—it gives the story more flavor—as long as the POV shifts are done correctly (which they were in this story).
Though I liked the book, it could use a light edit to clean up stray periods and unneeded commas.

In book 5 of the Scanguard Vampires series, Zane is known as the most cruelest, darkest, and private of the Scanguard vampires. His past is brutal, horrific, and turned him into a killer. After he saves a woman in a back alley, he unleashes his fury on the rapist and butchers the man, as the rapist well deserved. This gets Zane into hot water with Samson, his boss and friend at the vampire-run security company where he works, and he’s demoted for nearly exposing all of vampire-kind to the human world. Assigned to babysit a young woman with her own agenda, he never expected to meet his perfect match.
Portia is 20 years old and six weeks shy from her next birthday. She’s a hybrid vampire, and at age 21, her body will stop growing. Which means she needs to lose her virginity, or she’ll be a virgin forever, no matter how many times she has sex after she turns 21. After her father hires a bodyguard to keep Portia away from all men, she turns her eye on Zane and doesn’t fear him as most people do.
Portia and Zane’s relationship starts out slow, but they’re wonderful together. She’s mature for her age and is more than capable of taming her wild vampire lover. There’s more sexual tension in this book than actual sex scenes, and I found that refreshing. The tension and mistrust between Zane and his friends (Samson, Gabriel, Amaury, etc) definitely set up some good drama.
As with the other Scanguard books I’ve read, this one needs an edit to fix misspellings as well as misplaced commas and apostrophes (ex: nostril’s). Normally, I would knock off a star for editing issues, but I absolutely loved this story.

In the third book in the Scanguard Vampires series, Gabriel is a powerful, wealthy vampire, but he struggles with personal demons because of a physical deformity he’s had since he was human. It’s affected his ability to meet women, have sex, and fall in love for years. He also has a rather nasty scar on his cheek that gives him a dangerous edge.
Maya is a human doctor turned into a vampire against her will, but two Scanguard bodyguards rescue her before the transformation is complete. Gabriel feels an instant connection with her and takes her under his wing.
The H/h are great characters. Gabriel, especially, is very easy to understand and relate to. Unfortunately, they didn’t communicate with each other well, so problems arose from their misunderstandings.
I really enjoyed the sex scenes even though they were long. I’ve never read a story with a part-Satyr hero before, so the weird, kinky sex was right up my alley.
Gabriel’s friends return from the previous books, and one of them turns out to be the villain and another one is murdered in this story. I found that frustrating because I really liked both of those characters and was expecting them to get a HEA in a future book.
Carl’s age was confusing. In the first two books, I got the feeling he was in his early 20s (his human age at death), but he turned out to be in his 50s in this book. That doesn’t really matter plot-wise, but it’s just something that surprised me.
As usual with this series, the story needs an edit. For instance, sometimes the author wrote “she” (meant “he”), wrote “talking” (meant “taking”), and wrote “heroin” (meant “heroine”). Other than that, the writing is strong and fluid. The descriptions are detailed and the characters’ dialogue is witty and fun.
Overall, I liked the plot, the hot sex, and most of the characters.

In book 2 of the Scanguard Vampires series, Amaury is cursed to feel the emotions of others, and it causes him extreme pain. The only way to find a little temporary peace is to have sex with whoever is willing, so he’s gained the reputation of a sexoholic among his friends.
Nina blames her brother’s death on the vampires he worked for. She’s a tough woman and ties Amaury up in knots, quite literally. To him, she’s different from anyone he’s ever met. He’s calm and at peace in her presence, no sex needed, but they certainly do have a lot of it.
I loved the way the H/h bickered with one another. Their trust and self-esteem issues often interfered with their budding relationship, but they fit well together as both friends and as lovers once they finally let down their guard. I sympathized with and liked both the characters.
The sex scenes are super hot but long. The story could use an edit to minimize the telling. Sometimes more than one person talked in the same paragraph, which led to confusion. There were so many people and so much going on in the final battle scene that I couldn’t visualize it.
Overall, I like this story and plan to read more in the series.
