- Florian Ferrier a vécu dans l’est de la France avant de s’envoler pour Bora Bora à l’âge de 16 ans. Il a développé sa passion pour le dessin et l’écriture. De retour en France, il choisit tout naturellement d’en faire son métier. Diplômé de l’EESI, il rejoint le studio d’animation de Gaumont télévision en 1993. Auteur de nombreuses séries télévisées qu’il a conçues, dessinées ou réalisées, il publie parallèlement plusieurs romans jeunesse à partir de 2005, ainsi que des scénarios de bande dessinée.
Florian Ferrier travaille pour le dessin d’animation et la publicité. Auteur de nombreuses séries télévisées qu’il a conçues, dessinéesou réalisées, il publie parallèlement plusieurs romans jeunesse chez Magnard et au Seuil à partir de 2004. Actuellement directeur artistique du studio de création de jeux vidéo Ouat entertainment, il travaille en parallèle à l’adaptation pour la télévision de la série de romans de Serge Brussolo : Peggy Sue et les fantômes. Hôtel Étrange est le scénario de sa première bande dessinée.
Florian Ferrier a déjà publié de nombreux romans : on lui doit la trilogie Naotak chez Magnard jeunesse (2005-2006), L’Ange de Saint-Privat, Île fantôme pour âmes perdues (Seuil, 2008 et 2009) et le scénario d’ Hôtel étrange, une bande dessinée sélectionnée au festival d’Angoulême en 2011. Il est également l’auteur de Créatures, un roman fantastique sorti chez Plon en juin 2011.

Wake Up, Spring: Book 1 (Hotel Strange) par Katherine Ferrier

This is the second graphic novel in the "Hotel Strange" series. The characters in this book are planning and preparing for a big music festival and Kiki is too lazy to help anyone. While Marietta tries to convince Kiki to help they stumble upon a monster who wants to sing in the festival. While Kiki heads home, Marietta tries to find a quiet place for the Arrgoyle to practice. When she heads home, she is kidnapped by thieves! The Hotel Strange crew find out she has been kidnapped and head off to help her. The thieves are looking for the people who stole their sapphires, and Marietta and the gang try to help solve the mystery of the missing sapphires while they hold Mr. Leclair hostage. Meanwhile the rest of the gang continue to practise for the festival. They eventually solve the mystery and have time to spare before the big music festival. There are actually a couple of storylines going on here and this could get to be confusing but I think the group this is aimed for (ages 6 to 9) will enjoy it. The illustrations are colourful and detailed and definitely add to the story. This is a cute story and a good follow up to the first book.

This is a cute graphic novel for the younger set. There is not a lot of dialogue to get them bogged down, but enough to make a good story and the illustrations are great.
Hotel Strange closes in the winter while everyone hibernates. They reopen in the spring each year. This year, they are awakened by the sound of people at their door. When they go to see who is there, they find out it is the beginning of March and the guests have arrived, but Spring has not. Marietta, Kiki, and Mr. Leclair set off to find Spring, and get rid of Winter. With the help of Celestin and some other creatures, they have an adventure and finally "Wake Up Spring."
I recommend this book to early readers who may not want a chapter book but still like a good story and want to move beyond simple picture books.

Mr. Spring goes missing and the Hotel Strange staff seek out to find what has happened to him. This book could be used for comic and children may like the book for the illustrations along with the mystery behind it. Teachers could use the book to introduce a beginning, middle, and end of a story. Then have the students find the beginning, middle, and end while placing the events in the correct order.
