A very unique collection of stories, many with characters from a theme. The first story - Art's Place has characters going on about various artists in a conversation at a bar.

I was excited to receive this book because it was listed as containing a story about quilting becoming an Olympic sport - sounds intriguing! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The stories are all fresh and interesting, putting a new, fun twist on usual situations, making them delightful to read. I highly recommend this book.

Now the interesting thing is that many of the essays herein start from what are wonderfully funny ideas - a diva musical page turner, a working men's joint for the discussion of high art and literature - and they are almost all well executed but, and it is a big but, they are not as funny as they could be and should be. Comic writing is difficult, as a writer I know this only too well but when compared to the big boys of comic literature Mr Fedo comes up short. I suspect that if he spent more time on each piece and had an editor with a real ear for the comic then many of these pieces could be brought up to top notch. Three stars for effort and basic premise.… (plus d'informations)

This is a well-intended but crudely-written account of a dreadful incident in the supposedly progressive city of Duluth almost a century ago. It is a story that needed to be told, but the gravity of the subject warranted a better job. I understand that there is a later edition of this book, and I hope that some of the problems were solved there.
