A little gem of vital wisdom by National Geographic Combines Dr. Fauci's personal and professional lives into one smart, handsome volume. Fauci learns about empathy from his mom, and hard work from his dad. Loves learning everything medical because he is naturally curious, and wants to help as many sick people as possible.

Dr. Fauci studied and helped developed treatment for Ebola, H1N1, SARS, and most recently COVID-19. He was also deeply involved in President W.H. Bush's PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) program. He has been successful in life because of his compassion, committment to patients, community engagement, and continuous efforts to learn more and improve medical outcomes.

Excellent and informative read.

Fauci: Expect the Unexpected by Anthony Fauci is a short book filled with little vignettes and advice from the author. Anthony Fauci has spent decades in public service working on AIDS, Ebola, SARS, and became the “face” of the COVID-19 response.

Fauci: Expect the Unexpected by Anthony Fauci is not a political book, and furthermore, is not a biography. It’s a very short book which will probably take you an hour to read. Apparently, there’s some documentary out there which is where these quotes and anecdotes were pulled from.

The book is what it is, it’s nothing special, just a nice book with some good advice and interesting stories. I especially enjoyed the one about Bono, U2’s lead vocalist, coming to visit.

The book follows Dr. Fauci from his childhood in Brooklyn, where his intellect was recognized and got him into the prestigious Regis High School. Following his graduation from Cornell Medical School (first in his class), and through his public service career.

The National Geographic editors chose ten guiding principals in the life of Dr. Fauci. These are good guidelines, I related more to Colin Powell’s rules, but I can certainly say that Dr. Fauci’s are good as well.

I was dismayed to read many of the reviews who decided to trash the book based on their political ideology. I thought that we, book lovers, were better than that, as well as surprised how quickly otherwise intelligent people buy into smear campaigns and propaganda.

This slim volume is a series of paragraphs? Essays? I am not quite sure what but they are taken from a documentary that National Geographic made on Dr. Fauci that was released in September of 2021. Dr. Fauci had no creative input or control over this book.

There are ten chapters with titles that offer what you will find in the pages following such as: Above All Empathize, Pursue Your Passion, Live to Serve, Be a Lifelong Learner and so on. As you would expect they all offer advice pursuant to the specific topic. It’s the type of book you keep handy for when you need a bit of a personal pep talk or a hit of encouragement as you head into your day.

This would be a great gift for anyone who is a fan of Dr. Fauci or a friend who needs a bit of encouragement for whatever reason.
