I'm often left at the end of reading some of these wondering about what happens next. What will they do with the trauma and will they actually manage to have relationships that aren't shaded by all the shenanigans I have to wonder.
Anyway, Violet is now part of the resistance and they develop a plan for the next surrogate auction when plans go awry because Violet's sister Hazel is imprisoned in the palace of the Lake. It all screams trap and while Violet acknowledges it she still decides to go in and try to save her. Ah, teens and poor impulse control. It was an interesting ride and everything goes well for the heroes. They also learn a bit about how some people survive the society they're in, sometimes in different ways. The whole violence to achieve a cause is glanced at but not delved into.
And if I'm honest I'd love the dress on the cover.

If you loved The Selection series, you will love this book. Left with a little bit of a cliff hanger, but that just pushes you to want to read the next one. Strong characters, twists and turns throughout and all around good ya book.

Violet, Ash and Raven have escaped the Jewel, but not without some trauma. She has to try to defeat the royalty, because if she doesn't everything will be for nothing. Her friend Raven is pregnant and that's a death sentence, Violet is willing to do anything to help but there will be costs.
It's a fine bridging novel, now to read the next in the series. Lots of learning in this, about the world, about themselves and about the costs.

Sera and Leela are best friends on a small world that gets its sustenance from larger worlds through a magical tether, much like an umbilical cord. When it is time to sever the connection so their world can move on to find another world, one of the citizens who are all female, is chosen to use their magical blood to sever the link.
When Sera is chosen, much to everyone's surprise, she's reluctant, but the culture of her small world has no room for exception. When she allows her arms to be pierced so her blood will flow freely, her fall toward the larger world begins, but she neither dies, nor severs the connection, creating not only chaos on her world, but a different sort of havoc on the planet below. It involves two countries nearly at each other's throats, a cold-hearted and greedy father, his son and daughter, as well as a cast of quite interesting lesser players, including magical ones. I'm eager to read the sequel.… (plus d'informations)
