Emmerson wrote another Eighth Doctor book which I read earlier this year, Casualties of War; this one is similar in the setting - alien presence, which venal local human leaders try to exploit, not realising that it will do them no good - but a little more body horror and perhaps a bit less plot. An Eighth Doctor book which is set during the First World War, with the amnesiac Doctor now investigating mysterious happenings in a hospital for convalescent soldiers. For what is basically a zombie story, it is done rather well, with a particularly good one-off companion (Mary, the village midwife) whose emotional path is similar to many of the New Who companions, and other nicely depicted supporting characters. Would appeal to non-Who fans more than most.… (plus d'informations)

I really liked Casualties of War. As soon as I finished I missed reading it. I must I didn't like the way the Doctor defeated the golem or whatever you want to call it, but I still very much enjoy the book. The Doctor was particularly well realized and the supporting characters were fun.
