The book is from the series the Chronicles of Ara and it includes definitions, a legendarium of characters, a description of historic periods, both actual and alternative. In the prelude there is discussion of a many characters, Matthias, Sidra, and others. The wealth of information and plot twists is complex. As a third volume, reading the first two volumes first may help the reader with the complexity. .
The volume includes a satirical or farcical look at our world today using real, contemporary characters; an example is the election of President Trump that brings about the end of the world or the apocalypse. The book provides the characters in historical places such as Central Park West, New York City. The novel is divided into three sections/books in the table of contents. The jumping of time makes it almost like time travel; and the back-and-forth between historic periods and rationales about why certain individuals did certain things. References to Ara are found throughout the text, as are X and the dragon-slayer, Eron. These characters define major elements of the story. The work of Ara, as a failed muse, brought the end of the world. The bulk of the story uses fantastical placement of individuals and is interesting in the way it unfolds, reminiscent of some of Kurt Vonnegut's novels. As examples there are discussions about: the neo-Nazis and the Gestapo; Robert Stevenson and how he came upon the Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story.
Inferno is a tale about the power of Ara, the daughter of gods, she is woven throughout history in the literature. Throughout human history, tales like Beowulf's lost pages, as discovered by Tolkien and his associates begin an intertwining of literary stories in this novel. An interplay of historic fact and displacement of authors-in-time provides a complex story about literature, humanity, and gods. Ara's tale is one of a daughter turned against a father, and a desire for an end. The book ends with a discussion of famous authors and their stories to signify the muse at work. The epilogue begins with an interaction between Charles Dickens Dickens and Edgar Allan Poe, discussing their writings. And the story is to be continued.
