Minutieus verslag van een geruchtmakende moordzaak in Amerika aan het eind van de jaren tachtig tegen een vrouw die haar negen baby's om het leven gebracht zou hebben. Bij het overlijden van het negende kind rijzen bij medici en justitie vragen omtrent de doodsoorzaak. Conscientieus onderzoek, autopsie en bestudering van laboratoriumuitslagen wijzen sterk in de richting van moord. Er volgt een proces, waarin de vrouw schuldig wordt bevonden aan de dood van nog zes kinderen en tot twintig jaar gevangenisstraf wordt veroordeeld. Een wat monotoon, doch goed gedocumenteerd relaas geïllustreerd met foto's - waarin een redelijk beeld van een manisch-depressieve vrouw ontstaat, voor wie men totaal geen begrip kan opbrengen. Geen opwekkend verhaal, dat echter wel tot nadenken stemt. This is a riveting true story about the life of Marybeth Tinning and the 9 children she killed. The author very artfully and intricately directs the reader through every phase of Marybeth's life and gives great detail without getting too clinical and boring. I found the book very interesting but at times frustrating because you are aware that she is getting away with murder. Thankfully it is finally put to an end. There are many people who could have come forth with pertinent information but chose not too, for fear of Marybeth or other reasons. The book gave a good view of how a jury should work together.… (plus d'informations)
