Biblical Anthropology and the Intermediate State par Brian Edgar
interesting look at this question. Does not go as deeply into exposition of particular Bible passages as one might like, particularly the one in Php 1. However, good treatment of the situation as found in the church fathers and Thomas Aquinas down to Calvin. Shows how before Calvin the idea of intermediate state and soul immortality without the body was really not so held as Calvin did, certainly not universally among the early church.
