Chris Van Dusen is an American author and illustrator of children's books. He was born on St. Patrick's Day, 1960, in Portland Maine. After high school, he studied fine art at The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. He graduated with a BFA in 1982. Van Dusen spent more than ten years as a afficher plus freelance illustrator and his work appeared in magazines like Nickelodeon, Family Fun and Disney Adventures. He published his first book, Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee, in 2000. In addition to his own work, he has also illustrated numerous books by other authors, including Kat DiCamillo's Mercy Watson series. (Bowker Author Biography) afficher moins

This poetry book is about a ship full of circus animals. While sailing to Maine, the ship crashes on rocks and sinks, sending all the animals and people aboard into the water. The circus master leaves all the animals in the water so he can get ashore safely. Eventually the animals swim onto an island and befriend all the people living there. When the circus master comes looking for the animals, they all hide from him in pain sight because they don't want to go back to being in the circus. I would recommend this book for a 1st or 2nd grade classroom and it could be used as a good introduction book to the genre of poetry.… (plus d'informations)

Delightful rhyming tale of a stuck-up king who messes with the wrong magical lady. She casts a spell so that his head will grow every time he says something haughty. Pretty soon it's disgustingly huge! Finally, our king and sorceress meet again and not only does he learn his lesson, he finds love. Aw. I think this will kill at pajama story time. The illustrations really grossed me out as the king's head got all sloppy and sweaty and swollen, but I think it will mesmerize the kids. I also love to read aloud a good bouncing rhyme.… (plus d'informations)
