William Durland is an author, lawyer, and theologian, and former member of the Virginia State Legislature. William has practiced in the areas of International, Constitutional, and Military law with an emphasis on human rights and civil liberties for more than 40 years. Durland also has had a long afficher plus history in education, teaching in the areas of Philosophy, History, and Government, at Purdue University, Villanova University, the University of Notre Dame, and in the Colorado Community College system. About the Biblical view of Christian non violence.
The author argues convincingly that although Caesar may demand unquestioning loyalty, our highest allegiance as Christians is to Jesus, the Prince of Peace, the king of love. He asks Christians to reexamine the teachings of Jesus and apply them to their everyday practice of faith, hope, and love.
Living with God and living as if the Kingdom of God has already come is the witness the author discusses in this pamphlet.
This well-written and passionate essay begins with "We live today in urgent and fearful times." This is a call to live a life of radical faith and witness in the face of impending world catastrophe. Durland lays out the meaning of apocalypse, a history of apocalyptic thinking, and his interpretation of George Fox as an apocalyptic visionary and activist. The apocalyptic call is to recognize that God is Lord of history, and to wage the Lamb's War on behalf of that reality.
Durland calls Friends to live by an apocalyptic vision, rejecting the existing world structures, living in simplicity, community, pacifism, and equality, witnessing to the Kingdom of God, to the Light that will overcome the darkness.
In a real sense, the end times are always our own times. This was written in 1988; many people these decades later also feel a sense of impending world catastrophe.
This pamphlet should get a three to five star rating, depending on how apocalyptic you are. I compromised and gave it four, which actually is a pretty good assessment, I think.… (plus d'informations)
