Good detailed coverage of the construction of Fort McAllister, the many failed attacks on it by the Union fleet, and the fall of the fort to Sherman's army. The author also spells out the post Civil War history of the fort's decline and eventual restoration by Henry Ford and the State of Georgia. Well written and extensively documented. Good maps and many interesting photos. Although the author is objective about the Civil War, he barely mentions the importance of slave labor to the construction and maintenance of Ft McAllister which is a curious omission for such an in depth, modern history book.… (plus d'informations)
