Lyman Copeland Draper (1815–1891)

Nearly every book on the battle of Kings Mountain written is based on the exhaustive research by Lyman Draper in the 1870s. Draper's research papers are now available on microfilm and included much unpublished information about Ferguson's invasion of western North Carolina by his Loyalist troops and Tory militia, and how the militia's of several counties along the frontier organized, overcame significant problems of logistics, leadership and intelligence to track down and defeat an equal sized army that held the high ground on Kings Mountain.
