A short story about a cop who works undercover in a big cat refuge. Loved it :)

This is a very thought-provoking book. Not for the faint of heart, even though there is a minimal amount of directly witnessed physical violence. The brutality of the psychological and emotional anguish, though, is another matter. I wasn't sure what to expect, and the story could have gone in several different directions. What actually happened surprised me, and I liked that.

Tulano is a Grezan, a fascinating alien being. Clearly a fierce warrior, with a horrible past, he is still dependent on his current master. He has no, or only very limited, control over his fate. His master tells him what to do. When this includes not being able to help a fellow Grezan, Tulano realizes that there are things more important than being obedient, and ways in which he still has control.

The alien world created in the short few pages of this book was fascinating. I felt with Tulano from the very first page, and even though his solution to the dilemma he faces is utterly cruel in one way, it made total sense from his perspective. You will enjoy this book if you are fascinated by aliens and how they might think and reason, if you enjoy a story that is slightly 'out there', and if you are curious to find out what a loss of control in most areas of his life might lead someone to do. I suspect you will be as surprised by the ending as I was.

NOTE: THis book was provided by JMS books for the purpose of a review for Queer Magazine Online.

Not anywhere near realistic, but it was a good read anyway.
