This is a fun debut cozy mystery with plenty of action and great characters. I liked the setting of a small Wisconsin town on Lake Michigan. The main character Ava jumped into some ridiculous situations, but that's what I expect in a good cozy. I really enjoyed her relationship with her feisty grandparents. I'll be watching for book two!

Hot Fudge Frame-Up is the second book in A Fudge Shop Mystery series.

Ava's landlord, Lloyd Mueller, is getting ready to sell the cabin that she has been living in. She has been busy moving into her fudge shop and getting ready for the first annual Fudge Festival. Ava's BFF, Pauline's boyfriend John Schultz is planning on taping the events surrounding the festival and has gotten Ava to bring in a couple of guest chefs for the contest. But, unfortunately the guest chef's can't work together and have made a mess of Ava's kitchen.

Soon a rock is thrown thru a window at the old lighthouse with a note saying that if Lloyd, one of the judges, doesn't make sure that Ava's loses, somebody will die. When Lloyd is the one to die in an apparent suicide, Ava puts her fudge making on hold to see if it was really suicide or possibly murder.

This is a very interesting small town mystery where most everyone knows each other and Ava has to be careful that she doesn't become the next death. Ava has the help of Dillon Rivers, the man that she left at the altar and who she still has feelings for and Sam, her boyfriend from her high school days. Her grandparents are very caring towards her and a bright spot in the community

Delicious sounding recipes are also included in the book.

Will be watching for the next book.

FIVE-ALARM FUDGE had my taste buds tingling and the amateur sleuth raring to investigate!

The series had me at the word fudge. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on FIRST-DEGREE FUDGE, book 1 in the Fudge Shop Mysteries. Now here I am, just finished the third book and I’m already looking forward to the next!

Author Christine DeSmet has once again created a tempting concoction of mystery, great characters, and mouthwatering delights. This was a fast paced read with twists and turns, and a strong mystery that kept me guessing. The only negative thing I can say about this book is . . . it didn’t come with samples of all the yummy sounding fudge. But there are recipes for it! 

If you’re looking for a good cozy mystery, FIVE-ALARM FUDGE is a tasty treat you’re sure to love.

Can. not. do. it.

I'm not rating this because I couldn't even get past chapter 1. I tried, really I did. Perhaps I was in a less-than-tolerant mood, but the writing just isn't for me. I submit to the jury:

1. "Oh my gosh golly giddy-ups, I saw Hollywood's voluptuous, von-vivant vixen vamp!" There are so many things wrong with this sentence including crimes against French.

2. "Her eyes melted like dark chocolate as an ambrosial smile curved onto her face." Ambrosial smile?

am·bro·sial [am-broh-zhuhl]
adjective
1. exceptionally pleasing to taste or smell; especially delicious or fragrant.

I realise it's technically correct, but it so, really doesn't work for me.

3. The MC shares her fudge shop with her grandfather, who runs a Live Bait and Bobbers shop! All signs point to a straight face when the author announces that the name of the shop is Oosterling's Live Bait, Bobbers and Belgian Fudge.

In the name of all that is holy, who thinks a live bait and fudge shop is a good idea?!?!

On my best day, I'm not a fan of fudge and I'm never going to willingly go into a LIVE BAIT SHOP to buy any.

Chocolate night-crawler fudge anyone?
