William Ging Wee Dere has been an activist for over thirty years. He has published in numerous magazines and journals, including Ricepaper Magazine and CBC.ca. He co-directed the documentary tre Chinois au Qubec (2013) and co-directed and wrote Moving the Mountain (1993) and Gens du Pays: The afficher plus Chinese of Qubec (1993). I had high hopes for this book, as I'd mistakenly expected it to say more about the general history of Chinese immigration to Canada, with a focus on the Montreal community. However, the book is quite narrow in scope as its focus is primarily on the political history of the Chinese in Canada, especially the redress movement which culminated in an apology from Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2006 for the Chinese head tax. I enjoyed most the chapters of the book in which the author talked about his parents' experiences and the early history of the Chinese in Montreal, where much of my own family had settled.… (plus d'informations)
