I did not enjoy this one as much as Field of Peas, the first book in the series. In book 1, I fell in love with Mae, but did not feel as drawn to her little sister Trudy. I don't think the author gave us as much of Trudy's inner self as she did Mae, if that makes sense.

However, I did love the story and continue to enjoy Lake Emily.

A heartwarming story of a newlywed couple who decide to take over the family farm upon the death of his grandfather - despite the fact that neither has ever farmed before, nor lived in a small farming community. They learn a lot about one another, in an enjoyable story.

This was an eerie choice for me. I read it on the way to the funeral of my husband's grandfather -- who has a farm left to his children, and none of them want it.

As the third book in the Lake Emily series, the expectation of a heartwarming story with tight family ties and farming community values is already set. This was an enjoyable continuation to the series. I think I particularly appreciated Virginia's struggles to recover from her stroke.
