Cecil E. Denny (1850–1928)

This is Sir Cecil Denny's first person account of the early days of the North West Mounted Police with memories of the trek to the frontier, the encounters with aboriginal peoples (with whom Denny sympathised) and the fraught encounters with American whiskey traders and cavalry on the border. It's interesting, quite readable, and the edition I own is enhanced by a plethora of contemporary photographs of people and places mentioned in the text.
