This special book overflows with “feel good” moments! Sylvia and her friends happily go to each other’s home to experience how dumplings are cooked and enjoyed by diverse cultures.

The story gives a nostalgic sense of yesteryear, which I did not expect from a children’s book about dumplings. As I read the story, I imagined myself as one of the children enjoying the learning curves and the tasty dumplings. The story had my full attention and kept me wanting to turn the pages. Just thinking back on it makes me happy.

The end is my favorite part! I love how everyone gathered in a festive setting to celebrate their appreciation for the cultural and culinary differences in dumplings and in one another. This is an excellent example of “it takes a village to raise a child.”

The author’s use of diversity, equity, and inclusion seems effortless. I appreciate her writing style and how the illustrator’s talents compliment that style. A pronunciation key and a glossary are included.

I look forward to sharing this story with children in my family.
