In Sex, Science and Stem Cells congresswoman Diana Degette outlines the past, present and future of hot topic legislation surrounding stem cell research, birth control, abortion, HIV/AIDS awareness, and sex education. Though told from a distinctly liberal point of view (the book is subtitled Inside the Right Wing Assault on Reason), Degette provides a straight shot insider's look at the inner workings of congress and the struggles of passing fair legislation amidst the battleground of partisanship.

I didn't always agree with Degette's side of every argument, but this is definitely a book that forces the reader to think deeply about issues that often polarize voters in America. For anyone who's ever been confused by the media banter surrounding stem cells this is a book that portrays facts in an easily understandable manner.

(My largest complaint about this work is that it already suffers from being dated. Even though it was published in 2008, as a reader in 2009, I feel that our political climate has changed enough that some of the largest complaints raised are no longer relevant problems in Washington.)
