John Daniel has won two Oregon Book Awards for Literary Nonfiction, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. I wish I had read this before we rafted the Rogue. A good book.
Great Oregon author, thoughtful insights into the land, its history, its issues and its redemptive qualities
I truly enjoyed John Daniel's meditative journey (that's really what this book is). He bravely decides to spend five months (an entire dark, oregon winter) alone in a cabin along the Rogue River. The method Daniel uses is interesting and engaging--he easily navigates between his present angst of loneliness and the still sharp wounds of his past and his troubled relationship with his father. Daniel also has a wry sense of humor which prevails throughout his book. Definitely a worthwhile read. (Claire)… (plus d'informations)
