I'm a big fan of Mikki Kendall so when I saw she was involved with this graphic novel, I was all in. Covering women working for women either being in positions of power, activism, or excelling at arts and sports, it's really comprehensive. While a lot of the narrative focuses on the US and UK, it makes a real effort to be international by including sections where we look at women from around the world which is what really made it special to me. The artwork is great too, sometimes with 2-page inserts that encompass a lot of women, some of whom are famous and recognizable. I learned about a lot of women I didn't know about and that's a big win for me, as well as its final message asking what mantle each one of us is going to pick up to keep moving forward.… (plus d'informations)

IMO This was the best comic book of 2019.

Compared to other comic books about feminism, this one is spot on. Finally found one that focus on the topic rather than the authors take on the subject, that really just about them or how they were inspired by these woman. Mikki Kendall does a great job focusing on all types of women. She also points out the flaws of feminism too. A lot of this is focused on non-white women and their role (hence the cover). Don't think women rights meant rights for all women. This mentions how some suffragettes were racist and not friendly to the fact of a black woman voting. This also goes into a lot about Asian, Native American, LGBT and disability women's rights too. It could have included some more white women I thought were important, but there are so many women already and it would be even longer if she talked about everything. I highly recommend this to women interested in the history of feminism and also men, this proves knowing the history helps the fight.

I should also add there is a interview on this book on YouTube that is worth watching as a companion. Adds more than the comic. Kendall is a media critique and will point out racism in TV shows, like Agent Carter.

Lots of great information but not a good consistent narrative. The latter part of Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 lost their story line and turned into list after list.

The earlier chapters are much better.

Still recommended. A great intro.

The fight for women’s rights has spanned all of history and touched every culture. Issues such as the right to vote, work, get an education, own property, and be in charge of their own bodies has spanned millennials. Told by a time traveling AI to a group of young women, this graphic novel illuminates stories of notable women throughout history - from freedom fighters and queens to spies and abolitionists, from early hunter and gatherers to current feminist activist, Amazons, Abolitionists, and Activists is an amazing resource about Women’s History.

I learned quite a bit reading this novel - felt a lot like a crash course history lesson! There were so many women you read about though, that you almost don’t get to absorb it as much (especially towards the end).

It’s definitely a book you keep for the resource and reference. I can see it working really well in a school for students to find a woman to then do more research on since it gives a brief summary on most women.

Also great to read a few pages every day during Women’s History Month in March!
