Enjoyable, if flawed, set of flash fiction. The author's comments about each (which are half as long as the stories) are interesting--but sort of defeats the point of flash fiction. It shouldn't require explanation. Dail writes pretty well, however.

The stories in this collection are short, sweet, and to the point. Flash fiction is a strange animal. If you don't buy in within the first paragraph or two, the story is over before you know it. Dail quickly draws us in and keeps us there. His stories move along without ever feeling rushed. Paced well, he gives us a fantastic introduction to his work that makes me want more.

Dail's stories are what horror should be. They are scary. There's no butchered bodies, no piles of guts, or rotting corpses. Instead we have a mysterious and alluring box, panicked rabbits and dark holes in the ground, seeking answers about death (and not finding them), a cheating spouse and revenge, and the real fear in superstition. Dail opens doors, gives us a look, and slams them shut. We sit with our own fear. That's horror.

This collection definitely makes me want more of Dail's work. A nice way to lure us into the rabbit hole. Go there.
