I had already read a few books by and about him, so I knew a bit about Milosz's works, personality and milieu. That was definitely a help but wasn't a requirement for the enjoyment of this wide-ranging but California-focused exploration. I found the book to be full of insights - and not only into its subject. Recommend.

It's difficult to give a book-length collection of conversations a high rating but I did enjoy the read. Fiut often misunderstood what Milosz was trying to say and Milosz would have to gently correct him.
