A dry recounting of an African folktale: first this happened, then this unlikely thing happened, then this supernatural thing happened, but the hero proved true and good and they all lived happily ever after. Ho-hum.

It does have terrific art by comic veterans Ray Lago, Craig Hamilton, and Ray Snyder.

I think I would have liked this story more if I liked the art more. The art really drove me nuts. The story was interesting. I real was interested in the characters. I just didn't care for the art. I mixed up Bethany with her friends a few times.

Bethany a soccer player in High School. She thinks about soccer, a lot, till.. A new student Allien arrives and likes to gear her talk. He has some strange looking family members that aren’t so nice. There’s something else, he’s not really human. Things get dangerous and Bethany goes to Fairy.
I really enjoyed the colored drawings and the details put into the art.

I wanted to like this more then I did. Bethany is a very focused, very intense high school student; until she meets Allien Atwood. Suddenly she is in a relationship with him which is dangerous bc he is a fairy caught in the middle of a war. This one didn't thrill me. I couldn't figure out why she was so interested in Allien all of a sudden. Also bits of the plot felt like they were kind of left hanging in the middle of nowhere. This story was also simpler and one that's been heard in some incarnation a lot lately.

The one thing I did love (which bumped this up to a 3 for me) was the gorgeous infusion of color when they were in fairy. It was a great way to show how much more vibrant and lush the land of the fairy's is. That made me happy if nothing else did.
