An Unexpected Gift by Diane Craver is a touching Amish tale. While An Unexpected Gift can be read as a standalone (the author provides needed details for new readers), I suggest reading The Amish Mother’s Secret first. I thought An Unexpected Gift contained good writing with realistic characters. The characters from The Amish Mother's Secret return and some new ones are added. Somone has good news to share with the family, but the news could upset another. Another family member is struggling with a difficult decision. I like how the triplets along with their biological parents go out of their way to help someone in need. We get to learn about the Swartzentruber Amish. I like that the author explains some of the differences between Old Order and the Swartzentruber Amish. The story has English, Old Order Amish, and Swartzentruber Amish. The point-of-view switches between characters in each category. I did find it an information overload in the beginning as the author introduced the various characters and provided their background (it was so much at once). It became easier as I moved further into the story. An Unexpected Gift has faith, love, forgiveness, compassion, hope, and grace. We also see the importance of accepting a person and not judging them. All things are possible with God. I am looking forward to the next book in the Amish Adoption Series. There is a recipe for coconut cream pie at the end. An Unexpected Gift is an expressive story with a lost love, a surprising blessing, an unpredicted decision, disapproving parents, nuptial upheaval, and a gracious God.… (plus d'informations)

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
I always enjoy a good Amish read, this one I enjoyed very much. Being 40 years old and not married is unusual for an Amish girl, but this is Lindsay Prescott’s situation. Lindsay’s life is changed when she is diagnosed with stage 4, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer, and it is changed even more when she finds herself pregnant with a wealthy man’s triplets. A man who’s life is already planned by his highly wealthy family.

This is one of those heartwrenching stories that is difficult for me to read. Thinking about Lindsay’s sad diagnosis and her triplets and the life ahead she was facing, without the help of a husband, was difficult to read at times. I feel that Diane Craver did a fantastic job with this beautifully written story. Part of Lindsay’s difficult life was how she grew up, and now it is not any better now.

I like the characters for the most part, they deserve the Five Stars raiting I am giving. The special thing for me was finding out the author was diagnosis with this disease after she started writing the book. How unique is that. There is much more lurking around in this story that you will find out after reading this book.

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

The Amish Mother’s Secret by Diane Craver is Amish Fiction. This book centers around a single mother who gave birth to identical triplet daughters. She allowed an Amish couple to adopt two daughters while she kept and raised one.

This story illustrates love, love lost, and the gift of second chances. I love the beautiful way a strong faith in God drives this story. I loved getting to know Lindsay, Harris, Roman, Seth, and the triplets. However, Katie, the adoptive Amish mother who refuses to let Lindsay be part of the girls’ lives,p illustrates fear and other negative feelings cloud her decisions.

Rather than spoiling the ending for you, read this book to see how things turn out for this family. I think you will appreciate it. So if you enjoy Amish Fiction, check it out for yourself. I recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This is a book that ran the gamut of emotional highs and lows like a roller coaster ride. I felt so emotionally connected to the characters that I could feel the pain and the joy. It is a story of choices and how they affect our destiny and then God intervenes and shows mercy and grace and grants second chances to restore and bring beauty from the ashes. I found it felt so raw and real as Lindsay battles non-Hodgkin lymphoma as my dad battled that also as did the author. Therefore she penned from experience and her heart. A mother’s love runs deep whether through birth or adoption and both Lindsay and Katie are experiencing anxiety of what the consequences of a secret can create. You will not be disappointed in this story with depth and secrets revealed that brings healing.
I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
