Still an interesting series to read. The main characters seem to be slowing down or constrained because of their mounting responsibilities.

Giles and Daphne, Earl and Countess of Camshire, continue on their merry ways. He, by capturing frigates in pairs and she, by pursuing all the felons in her now deceased father-in-law's very unscrupulous past. Interesting folks and another entertaining tale about very perilous times. Historically, generally correct, but embellished gently to make a nice tale in this fun-to-read series.

This series remains nicely balanced between Daphne and Giles. The Daphne side addresses the stilted society of the times where men ruled and aristocratic men ruled absolutely. Her unique education and upbringing make her very atypical as she tries to right wrongs as well as managing their estates and her uncle's business.

Nicely balanced between land and sea, it also showcases Daphne and Giles in strong leadership roles. For this era, expected for Giles but not usually for the woman of the house, Daphne in this case. Lots of interesting history of tariffs, smuggling, caste entitlements and not a pleasant place for most common folk usually found farming, in service or as a laborer. Interesting, enlightened main characters and a continuing good storyline move this series along nicely.
