Well photographed, well arranged and laid out, well-indexed: all the details are in place here. The recipes in this beautiful book are mostly way beyond anything I would have time and ambition to attempt ("New Potato and Summer Vegetable Soup with Salsa Verde and Mascarpone" is typical), but the essays on seasonal eating, local food (in Ireland, but still interesting and full of universally valid observations) and foraging for wild food make the book a keeper for me. I'm really interested in tracking down some of the vegetables he describes and discovering how well they will grow in Canada. And despite my comment on the complexity of the recipes, there are some I will definitely be using, such as Tomatillo Salsa which is simple and basic, and Roast Sweet Dumpling as Squash with Mushroom and Kale Stuffing, which is at least as complex it sounds but worthy of being the main dish at a Thanksgiving dinner with vegetarian guests.… (plus d'informations)

The first Cafe Paradiso cookbook. Great recipes that all work. They can be a bit over-elaborate but lend themselves well to amendment and deconstruction into their component elements. The book itself is beautifully designed.

Denis Cotter is Ireland's greatest vegetarian chef and runs the best vegetarian restaurant (in Europe?) in Cork. Every recipe I've tried in this book, as in his others, works. Beautiful book design too.

This is a great cookbook for anyone who loves food. Cotter constantly excites and surprises with colours, textures and of course tastes. Some of the recipes are elaborate and require some preparation but all that I have cooked so far have been well worth the effort. His restaurant in Cork is a little gem too by the way.
