A somewhat humorous book that reminded me of Janet Evanovich's books, only a little more serious. I knew how the book was going to end, although I didn't know how Cosimano would get there. The novel was entertaining and would make a good beach read.

This picks up immediately after Finlay and Vero return from the citizen's police academy adventure. They decide to head to Atlantic City immediately to try to erase Vero's debt and find a fancy car. The road is never easy, and they are joined by Finlay's ex, the kids and even Finlay's mom, under the guise of a girls' weekend with Steven watching the kids. It is another fun fun read as the two somehow manage to have time to sleuth without being found out. This series hits so many fun notes of the genre, all while delivering humor even better than the early Plum books.… (plus d'informations)

this was fun for me this time around. i don't know if it really is appreciably better than the last couple or if it had just been a little while since i'd read them or that i was just in the mood for it. but it was just the palate cleanser i was looking for. it was definitely still a caper and over the top but maybe because she acknowledges that along the way, it didn't bother me this time.

Finlay's troubles take her and Vero to Atlantic City where Javi is being held. Also, Finlay must find a way to make a deal with a loan shark to get herself and Vero out of trouble. But while Finlay and Vero want to make the trip themselves, suddenly Finlay's mother, her children, and her ex-husband, Steven are along for the ride. Just when the trip to Atlantic City seems to be under control, who should show up but Nick and his crooked ex-partner, Charlie. Finlay doesn't know how she is going to get herself out of this one.

Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is another enjoyable addition to the Finlay Donovan series. The usual hijinks are present, but the humor just didn't land with me this time, however, I can see where many people might find them hilarious. The many, many characters have already been fleshed out in previous books, but some reminders of their importance to the plot might have been helpful. Although a little slow in the beginning, the mystery becomes very twisty with lots of events that lead to a satisfying conclusion to the story. Overall, Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice is a very entertaining entry in the Finlay Donovan series.
