Anthony Comstock did some good work against various frauds and scams, but went overboard against anything he considered indecent, such as "smutt" or nudity or free love. A self-appointed arbiter of public morality, he employed methods that were cruel and often criminal. He boasted of the pornographers he had hounded to death. In this book he warns about the dire consequences of indulgence in "free lust" or "the sportin' life" or dime novels or flesh and spirit. The author was unbalanced, but the book has some limited value to readers interested in censorship issues or the history of censorship.… (plus d'informations)
