Title: Ms. Lawyer
Author(s): Lea Coll
Character(s):
Emma Ryan: Brown, Blue Eyed
Luke Hudson: Brown, Brown Eyed
Setting: Chestertown, Maryland
Tag(s): Romance, Contemporary
Content Rating: R
POV: First Person (Heroine)
Smexy Level: Hot
Favorite Quote(s):
― “None of that matters if I don’t have you.”
Overall Opinion:
For the next three months, the new public defender Emma moves into the small town of Chestertown where she comes across Luke, the police officer who challenges her at every turn. Their relationship heats up but what will they do when someone threatens to tear them apart?

Lea Coll's “Ms. Lawyer” falls into the mediocre category. I liked the overall premise of the story which I was drawn to when reading the blurb but ultimately it fell flat. Emma and Luke lacked depth, there was no excitement leading up to the built-up of the conclusion of the novel and I frankly was done and over this half way through. Nothing particularly stood out and overall writing left much to desire. Basically “Ms. Lawyer” shall remained unmemorable by my standards. I appreciate the ARC and the time the author took to write this but to say the least, this just wasn't for me.

Review of eBook

Savannah St. James works in her mom’s Main Street shop, Lillianne’s Clothes and lives in the upstairs apartment with her young son, Miles. It isn’t exactly what she’d planned for her life, but Miles is her world and her only sadness is that he won’t know his father who has passed away.

Today she is returning to her mother’s shop after spending an afternoon at The Bubbles and Tulle Festival with her friends. Julianna had told her that the building sold, causing Savannah to wonder about the future of her mom’s store. She sees someone moving boxes into the long-vacant shop next door to her mom’s shop and she briefly wonders if he might be the new owner. Savannah is surprised to discover that she knows the man; Julianne told her he’d grown up here but had lived out of town for the past several years.

But things don’t go smoothly; Ethan is planning to open a hardware store in the vacant space next to Lillianne’s Clothes, but he seems annoyed by Savannah and by her mom’s cluttered shop.

Will Ethan’s ownership of the building mean Savannah will have to move out of the upstairs apartment? And why is he so annoyed with Savannah?

=========

This Second Chance Harbor prequel introduces the two main characters in “Fight Chance,” the first book in a new series. The characters are interesting and an intriguing premise sets the stage for the forthcoming book; readers are sure to want to know more about Ethan.

With the stage set for the new series, readers can look forward to meeting Miles and finding out why Ethan is so angry.

Recommended.

Samantha and Jack have been friends since they were young children when he protected her from bullies that hasn't changed for them into adulthood. Samantha has crushed on the hot firefighter who has always protected her. Sam's childhood wasn't ideal even though she grew up in a very affluent section of town. Her parents are emotionally unavailable to her. Her mother was hyper critical of everything Samantha did. And Samantha tended to go along with what others wanted including her boyfriends. She never chose them--they chose her whether she wanted the relationship or not. The one thing that Samantha loves--is baking. She expected to take over the Bakery she has worked for since she was 16. Instead, the owner's son--Justin runs it now. A man who bullied her all through school.

Jack has held a crush on Samantha since they were little. There's a few problems with starting a relationship with Samantha. The first being, he's only living in town temporarily to help his father out at the marina and volunteering at the local fire department to keep his skills. Local politics mess with various aspects of his life. Someone is ruining his father's business. Justin, the jerk who used to bully Sam keeps implying that he and Sam are an item. Jack knows how Samantha feels about him. He needs her to choose him. He doesn't want to be like all the other men in her life and push himself on her or pressure her into being in a relationship with him.

Can Samantha stand up for herself with Justin?

Can she make her baking dreams a reality?

Will Jack take his old job back and leave Samantha?

Will the town's politics and the marina sabotages ruin Samantha and Jack's relationship?
