Paul Collicutt

"This Train" by Paul Collicutt is an interesting picture book that exemplifies the basic concepts of trains through is use of descriptions and illustrations of various types of trains. There are various types and colors, and are shown in different possible settings.
I really like this book and so do my children. It is very easy to read and understand and teaches about trains in a very interesting way. I think this is a great book to have in a classroom or library, because it is not only informational on trains, but is also a great practice book for an early reader. A graphic novel set in 1954, the main feature is the rivalry to be the first runner to break the four-minute mile barrier. Intertwined with this is the mysterious death of one of the American athletes competing for this honour. The drawings are evocative of America at this time and the private investigator called in by the university to help in solving the mystery is an ex-athlete. The excitement of the period over the record attempt is recreated with scenes based on existing film of the first four-minute mile.
The graphics are easily the best part of the book, as there are weaknesses in the plot, with two fortuitous coincidences leading to the resolution of the mystery.… (plus d'informations)
